MedBridge builds the tools to improve patient outcomes, increase profitability, and mitigate regulatory risk by providing educational content specifically catered to medical professionals and organizations. My role is to storyboard and design animations to illustrate medical-grade concepts.
I have grown my understanding of pacing, composition, and flow through both a motion designer and animator’s eye. To abstractly translate a difficult, medical concept through simple shapes and illustrations has been a challenge that I’ve been learning how to solve in a new way with each new course I work on.
Process
The first few days of a new course, I listen to full lectures and storyboard potential custom animated graphic segments within each chapter. I will sketch out my ideas initially then go into Adobe Illustrator. Topics can range from hygiene, social practices as a professional, meditations, and physical & occupational therapy.
The last few days are then used to fully render the design and review the storyboards with both the design and animation production team. Storyboards are handed off to the animator, in which After Effects is used. Finalized animations are then sent to the post-production team to put within the final lectures.
Through this process, I research concepts in allied health for accurate depictions and medical illustrations. Simultaneously, I would collaborate with producers, editors, and other production staff on a regular basis to make sure my designs are accurate and comprehensive.
